You may be thinking to design and build your own website or already have a design made. Either way you are probably wondering about the next step in getting a website on the Internet.
You have several choices, but learning how the web and a few basic terms will make it easier to decide what to do next.
What is the World Wide Web You've seen it, I've used, all love him and one thing is certain, the Internet is here to stay!
But what is the internet, exactly? Apart from a mythical ether available at home, in coffee shops, telephones and apparently the rest of our lives? Let's take a look under the hood.
The Internet is a computer network that spans the globe. All computers on the network can communicate with each other using a communication standard called HTTP. Web information is stored in documents called web pages that are stored on computers called web servers. When your computer connects to a web server (via HTTP) becomes what is called a web client. The program used to view web pages, either Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari or Oprah is called a web browser.
How it works (basically) In short, a Web browser sends a request to view the site to a web server. The request is sent in a special format called HTTP. All web pages use special code which is basically a set of instructions that tell the web browser how to display the page. The most commonly used screen instructions are called HTML tags.
The web server is simply put, a collection of web pages and other files available to the public. To make your page available online and must be placed in a public web server.
The most common way of doing this is to use a professional web hosting company, but there are other ways too.
The domain name - Your own unique Internet address A domain name is a unique address that every website must have to identify themselves online. It's like a phone number, but instead of numbers on a phone, type in text in the address bar of your browser.
By publishing a Web site on the Internet, you must register a domain name or have someone to assign one to you. A web host will often provide one free as part of your package, otherwise you will have to register yourself with a service such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. There is a small fee to register a domain name, usually about $ 10 USD.
So I know a little about how the web works as we will see how to make their public websites.
Web Hosting Options We look at five common ways to publish your site online. The one you choose will largely depend on the severity of your site that is expected to be.
Using your ISP web space Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to purchase bandwidth through may also offer web space, they often provide basic accommodation as part of their service. This option is ideal for a personal website or for prototyping, but often limited in terms of resources of a web site seriously.
Hosting on your own computer You can run a web server from your own personal computer through your ISP's bandwidth. This option requires a bit of work and creating good technical skills but gives you total control and flexibility. However, it is up to you to install, configure and maintain their own software and you'll have to keep your computer running 24 / 7. If you turn off your computer at the end of the day, your website will go to it. By choosing this option, make sure your ISP terms and conditions permit, many ISPs frown on this practice or banning them outright.
Using the framework of another person Some websites facilitate the creation of content on your site. Some popular examples include Squidoo, Hub Pages and Google Knol. The advantages of these services is that you can quickly create a website for free. Also, it is likely to attract visitors much faster than a normal website. The disadvantage is that they get to use your own domain name and the expansion of content is limited. You are at the mercy of the service, for example, could be closed in the short term, taking on its website with it.
Using a free web hosting company These services provide a basic level of server resources, but is not guaranteed to be reliable. In essence you get what you pay for. Free accommodation can also request that the application banner advertising on their websites and usually do not allow you to use your domain name. Free use of accommodation can be a good way to start and test an idea, but they are a good choice for anything beyond that.
Using a paid hosting company The most popular web hosting, by far, is paid web hosting with a shared plan. The advantage over an open floor plan is a better support, guaranteed 99% server uptime and more server resources in terms of bandwidth and disk storage space.
Shared hosting means that you are sharing a web server with other clients and the CPU and RAM of the server is shared among other websites. A more expensive option is dedicated hosting, which costs more, but it means that you have a web server computer entirely dedicated to their websites. Typically, shared hosting is fine for all but the biggest sites of the company.
The choice of hosts must be determined by the objectives and the size of your website designed.
If your site is small in scope and ambition, then check to see if your ISP offers accommodation, or look at a free hosting package or website with dynamic content. On the other hand, if you intend to have a larger Web presence more professional, then a payment, shared hosting plan is probably for you.
This is one amazing quote! I mean really, really amazing. Like super incredible and stuff.
